Injuries sustained while backing List No 1.

  • Raw skin, inside of left upper arm from buckle being folded under backpack strap for prolonged period of time.
  • Burn mark on left upper arm from vigorous application of backpack.
  • Broken thumb nail exposing nice amount of faw flesh and leaving a jagged bit of nail which will later tear my eye out when I am tired and rub it.
  • Blood blister on right upper arm from pinching by backpack buckle.
  • Scrape on left wrist, from watch stuck in backpack strap.
  • Enormous pain on chin, from Mt Fuji-sized pimple, the combined result of aeroplane air, humidity, a 4am facial and a box of Crunky chocolate.
  • Tightness at top of shoulders from lifting backpack (only 16 kgs) to above seat baggage rack. There is no low baggage areas on the Shinkansens so bags need to be lifted well above my head.
  • Tightness in right lower back from shifting weight impatiently when thrown off the train from Shin Osaka to Hiroshima while it was cleaned by men in baseball outfits.
  • Pride, wounded by how soppy I was the first night I arrived.
